Cleansers have to be the most used and abused products in my routine – I love discovering new textures and products! So this post is a round-up of the cleansers that have graced my bathroom shelf, followed by a selection of masks that are all worth talking about. Plus, as a treat, two body favourites that I’ve really enjoyed using.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash (£6.50 / 250ml) is one of those products that does exactly what it promises on the pack – a very straightforward foaming gel, powerfully oozing with the iconic tea tree fragrance, that leaves the skin squeaky clean and refreshed. One of the greatest things about it is that it’s perfectly unisex and a great affordable everyday cleanser.
Weleda Gentle Cleansing Foam (£15.95 / 150ml) is another fantastic straightforward cleanser – great for oily skin, yet not as stripping as cheaper formulas. For me, it was the ideal morning face wash because it prepped and cleansed the skin without leaving it too dry – particularly ideal for post-retinol mornings when the skin needs a much more gentle touch. Weleda is also one of those amazing natural, clean brands that do high quality products worth investing in.
Innisfree Green Tea Moisture Cleansing Oil (£16.80 / 150ml) was one of the products I bought on my first trip to Seoul and sparked my love for this fantastic Korean brand. Their Green Tea range is iconic for its core ingredients but also for its unique and magical scent that I can never get enough of! The greatest thing about this cleansing oil, apart from the luxurious feel that it gives as you massage it into the skin, is how quickly it turns into a rinse-off lotion as soon as you add water. It’s a bit of a double-cleanser in one product, perfect for when you’re not wearing too much makeup. And if you haven’t tried Innisfree, I urge you to give this brand a go!
AveSeena HoneyActive Beauty Mask ($76 / 100ml) is a gorgeous mask that leaves the skin soft and glowing, free of the tight feeling you might get with harsher rinse-off masks. The first thing you notice about it is the delicious smell of honey with cocoa and neroli, and then comes the texture… If you ever applied raw honey to your face, you’ll understand exactly what I mean: it’s sticky and tacky and quite hard to spread evenly on the skin (and if you’re sitting in a hot room or in the sun, you’ll feel it starting to melt and slowly drip off your face as you’re waiting for all the goodness to sink in). But then again, it’s a much more suitable treat for cold winter days when the skin is drier and in need of a hydrating pamper session. I found that warming the heavy glass pot under the hot tap makes the texture a lot smoother and easier to work with, in case you get to try this lovely mask.
Evolve Organic Beauty Miracle Mask (£24 / 60ml) was one of my favourite masks in 2020 and I talked about it back in June. It leaves the skin incredibly smooth and radiant like very few masks manage to, plus the 99% natural, plant-heavy formula makes it a guilt-free product to abuse when needed. I will absolutely buy this again and again!
Lixirskin Soft Clay Rubber (£28 / 60ml) is one of my all-time favourite clay masks that works wonders for oily and blemished skin. The chemical exfoliating action perfectly complements the purifying effects of clay and makes this the ideal cleansing mask. I wouldn’t recommend using this more than once a week because it’s so efficient at doing its job that all you need is some maintenance with more gentle formulas (like the Evolve Organic Beauty one above).
Kypwell Reviving Phyto Body Scrub was one of those wonder products that you come across once in a blue moon. I discovered this Cypriot spa brand at the Natural & Organic Products Show in London a few years ago (oh, how I miss trade shows!) and this is their only product that I had the pleasure to try – so they might be hiding a few more undiscovered wonders, but they’re sadly not easy to come by in the UK. This product has the most amazing walnut fragrance and the absolutely perfect scrub texture, with fine and dense grains that equally soften and hydrate the skin. I totally recommend it, if you get the chance to get your hands on it!
Jason Aloe Vera 84% Moisturising Creme (£7.99 / 113g) is the most amazing body moisturiser for hot days. It’s super lightweight and delicately scented to sink into the skin in seconds, while the aloe vera has the perfect cooling effect that refreshes and soothes. Even though it can be used both on the face and body, I only tried it on the body because I usually prefer more specialised hydrating ingredients for my face (hello, hyaluronic!). Definitely a good summer staple!
